DOJ To Allocate JAG Stimulus Funds
The White House announced that the Justice Department is now making the $2 billion in stimulus funding for the JAG Program available to state and local governments. These funds can be used for a variety of efforts, including supporting drug and gang task forces, crime prevention and domestic violence programs and hiring law enforcement officers, per a White House press release. Sixty percent of the funds will go directly to the states, while 40 percent will be set aside for units of local government. |

Stimulus Signed Into Law
The final version of the economic stimulus bill that President Obama signed into law still includes $1 billion for the COPS program. Funding for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant was reduced from $3 billion in the House version to $2 billion. |
