Health Bill Gives Obesity Project $25M

For FY 2010-2014, Section 4306 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provides $25 million for the Childhood Obesity Demonstration Project. The project aims to strengthen partnerships working to bolster childhood obesity prevention and control efforts.

Task Force To Tackle Childhood Obesity

Obama signed a memorandum establishing a federal task force to fight childhood obesity, a concern Obama regards as "one of the most urgent health issues that we face in this country." Obama has instructed the task force to create a strategy that will incorporate the federal government and the private and nonprofit sectors in eliminating childhood obesity. The administration has also requested $10 billion over the next 10 years, beginning in 2011, to help schools provide healthier meal programs.
