Narrowed Down List Of Possible Breeds
The Obamas did not jump on the Peruvian dog offer, but they have considered pure-bred and mixed-breed dogs, which Obama refered to as "mutts like me." In an appearance on "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos, the president-elect noted that "they seem to have narrowed it down to a labradoodle or a Portuguese water hound." He added that the family would start keeping an eye on shelters. "This has been tougher than finding a Commerce secretary," he said. |

Promise Affirmed In Victory Speech
Obama affirmed the promise in his victory speech in Chicago's Grant Park. Despite the country's economic and national security concerns, this has been one of the incoming president's most scrutinized pledges. Ten-year-old Malia's allergies are a factor in deciding what breed of dog to choose. Shortly after the Grant Park speech, Claudia Galvez of Peru offered the new first family a hypo-allergenic Peruvian Hairless dog. |
