Budget Outline Would Add Veterans To Rolls

President Obama's FY10 budget outline calls for restoring benefits eligibility for nondisabled, modest-income veterans. The outline estimates that the move will expand eligibility to over 500,000 veterans, and it promises to maintain quality and timely care for those already covered.

Rolls Likely To Expand This Year

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Jan. 5 that additional funding approved by Congress last year would likely allow it to add veterans making 10 percent more than the current threshhold. The change is expected to take place by the end of June. VA nominee Eric Shinseki told senators at his confirmation hearing that he wanted to gauge the number of veterans to be added and determine cost and logistics for a new enrollment plan.
